Welcome to the NESCafe Emulator, written by David de Niese. NESCafe is a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Emulator written in Java and will run on any platform through your web browser. It runs hundreds of the old great Nintendo games and was the first Java NES emulator to emulate both the video and sound of the original NES.

The NESCafe emulator is available in two flavours:

Hosted
This is the quickest and easiest way of getting NESCafe running on your own website. Simply place one line of code into a webpage and point NESCafe at the game that you wish to play. We host the NESCafe Applet for you and we maintain your user's data, such as their screenshots and saved games.

Applet
This version is only for Partners of NESCafe - the sites that have supported the development of NESCafe either through testing or donations. If you are one of these sites then this version will work for you. It is your own NESCafe Applet, which can be placed on your website for your visitors to use. If you wish to become a NESCafe Partner and support this project then please read below to learn how.

Important Notes

Whichever version you use, please ensure that you only play games that you own the original cartridges for, otherwise you may be infringing copyright. Also, make sure that you read the documentation included with the version you download before running NESCafe as it will explain the requirements for NESCafe and how to install and configure it. Please also ensure you have installed Java.

Download the Hosted Version

The Hosted version is the easiest and quickest to set up. Simply add one line of code to a webpage on your website and NESCafe will be up and running! NESCafe is hosted on the official NESCafe website, you just need to configure it by providing the width and height of the screen, and by provided the URL of the game to play. You can also provide a userid for the user, which must be the unique identifier for that user on your site. This will allow them to save screenshots and states.

Please note that when you provide the URL of the Nintendo ROM file in the gameurl parameter you must leave off the preceeding http part of the URL, otherwise you will get a Permission Denied error. Also, please do not reference ROM files that are hosted by sites other than your own, unless you have their permission.

Download the Applet Version

The Applet version of NESCafe allows you to host NESCafe on your own website. This is only available to Partners of the project (people that have supported the development of NESCafe either through testing, development or donations).

The Applet version is the full version that you can see on this site. The minimum donation to become a NESCafe partner is USD 100.00 (paid via this website). If you would like to make this donation you will receive your own copy of the NESCafe Applet and you will be supporting future development of this project.
